India played Oman on 06-09-2019 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Sunil Chhetri put India up in front after 24 minutes through a Brandon Fernandes free-kick from the edge of the box. This is a video of the goal taken by a fan :- India dominated the first half and went in to the break with a 1-0 lead. Then, after minutes of literally nothing, the Indian defence broke down as Al Alawi scored two goals in the 82nd and 90th minutes, handing Oman the win. Neither team deserved to win but Oman have 3 points now and are on top of the group along with Qatar who smashed 6 past a hapless Afghanistan. India next play Qatar away. PLAYER RATINGS :- 1. GURPREET SINGH SANDHU - 8.0 (GK) Gurpreet was fantastic in goal against Oman. He saved a header from point blank range. His reflexes were top class. He could not do much to not concede. The Indian national football team will face the Caribbean nation, Curacao in the King's Cup 2019 on the 5th of May 2019 in Buriram, Thailand. This game looks like it will provide India a very tough test as they would be facing a team ranked 20 places above them. The Curacao team consists of players who play in the Dutch First division(Eridevise). So, India will face a team with players who played top level football for most of the year. This will be a knockout game so, where the match would be won or lost is hard to say. One defensive howler or one piece of brilliance might decide the game.
We have put together a list of 5 players who we feel will make the most impact(the list is in no particular order) -
- Leandro Bacuna
- RANGELO JANGA
Next up is Rangelo Janga. Rangelo Janga plays for the champions of Kazakhstan, FC Astana. A big and a strong center forward, Janga will be tough to deal with both on and off the ball. He has netted 10 goals in 14 matches for Curacao, averaging 0.71 goals per match. He is the record top scorer for Curacao. He also sets up goals for his team-mates and when he is not assisting, he is scoring with his deadly finishing skills.
- SANDESH JHINGAN
A warrior, both on and off the pitch, Sandesh Jhingan will be at the heart of India's defence. He is the best center back in India and he may not be very elegant on the ball but he gives it his all. Seldom have we seen Sandesh make a mistake. He is fearless and he puts his body on the line whenever needed. He will come up against better and more skilled opponents in the King's Cup and that will only make him better. The only drawback to his game is that he is not a ball playing Center Back.
- GURPREET SINGH SANDHU
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu played for Bengaluru FC in goal and was one of the key players as Bengaluru FC won the Hero Indian Super League. He has been in tremendous form and is expected to start for India against Curacao in the King's Cup opener. He has great physical attributes and he possess brilliant handling skills. He also marshals the defense from behind and can play the occasional pass and long ball. He makes his presence felt in the penalty box and is commanding presence for India in goal.
- SUNIL CHHETRI
Is it possible to omit our hero from this list? No. Even at the ripe old age of 34, our own legend is banging in goals for fun. He was also instrumental for Bengaluru FC as they won the Hero Indian Super League this season. The goals just keep coming from him. He will form a partnership with Udanta Singh. The absence of Jeje might hurt his game a little. He is short but he his headers are piercing and normally they end up in the back of the net.
